Your guide to Halloween weekend in New York

Halloween lands on a Saturday in 2026, which turns New York’s favorite night into a full three-day weekend. From Friday, October 30 through Sunday, November 1, the five boroughs fill up with costume parades, haunted houses, block-party trick-or-treating, pumpkin smashes and 21+ parties that run until the sun comes up. This page pulls all of it into one place, sorted by day and by the kind of night you want, with every free and paid listing clearly marked.

Friday is the warm-up. Museums and public spaces start early: there are Halloween DJ sets, candlelit ghost tours, a haunted carousel and plenty of after-work spooky events. It is also the first big night for the ticketed scene. Blood Manor, the long-running Tribeca haunted house, opens at 7 PM, and Brooklyn’s party calendar starts with circus cabarets, a zombie prom and the first night of the Vampire Ball. If you want a low-key date, pair a ghost walk with dinner nearby and save your energy for Saturday.

Saturday, October 31 is the main event. Daytime belongs to families. Community gardens, libraries, markets, parks and business districts host costume parades and candy trails, and many neighborhoods close streets for trick-or-treating. The Bronx Zoo runs its last weekend of Boo at the Zoo, with a candy trail, hay maze and costume parades included with admission. At night, the NYC Village Halloween Parade marches up Sixth Avenue. It is free to watch, it is one of the biggest night parades in the country, and anyone in costume can march. Get there early, travel light and expect crowds on the subway. After the parade, the 21+ crowd heads to Brooklyn for the Vampire Ball’s second night, House of Hallucinations at House of Yes, and more.

Sunday, November 1 is for the wind-down and Día de Muertos. Look for pumpkin smashes that compost leftover jack-o’-lanterns, ofrenda workshops and Day of the Dead celebrations, and the final night of Blood Manor. It is also a good day for families who missed Saturday’s crowds.

A few tips for the weekend. Free events still fill up, so check the official link before you go: we link every listing to its source and show when we last checked it. Paid tickets for parties and haunted houses often sell out or have no door sales. Age limits matter: anything marked 21+ needs ID, and haunted houses usually suggest an age floor. Food and drink listings are labeled, and we only show restaurants and bars that pass our health-inspection check. Daylight saving time ends at 2 AM on Sunday, so Saturday night gets an extra hour.

Want to build your weekend? Use the Halloween planner: tap “Add” on anything below and it drops into your Friday, Saturday or Sunday plan, saved on this device. Prefer free-only? Our free Halloween in NYC list has every no-cost listing, and the this weekend page covers everything else happening in the city.

A practical tip: weekend subway service changes are common, so check the MTA before you head out, and give yourself extra time near the Village on Saturday evening when streets around the parade route close. Bring a light layer for outdoor events after dark, and check each listing again on the day, since times and capacity can change.
